Rock n Roll dancing at Henley Square, December 2005

At Adelaide's beach-side Henley Square the ground shakes, the windows rattle and the cameras roll on a regular basis. And why not? The summer weather here is almost as hot as the pink outfits that two of our star dancers were wearing.

On Sunday 4th December 2005 a group of dancers took part in a demonstration arranged in conjunction with the Adelaide Rock n Roll Club. It was a dazzling display of delightful dancing that will likely have inspired some spectators to attend Rock n Roll dance lessons.

Open-air demonstrations are a great way for the dancers to enjoy themselves and for the public to enjoy watching the dancers enjoy themselves. The tourists and beach-goers at this popular seaside spot get more for their money than just a latte at one of the numerous Henley Square cafes. They get first-class entertainment thrown in for free.

Rock n Roll jump It must have been a great afternoon because later at the Semaphore Palais, another popular Rock n Roll venue, Ann was jumping for joy, as you can see from the photo. Luckily James is a good catch!

It seems that while some pub patrons like to get high, others prefer to get airborne. So much for any suggestion that Rock n Roll dancers are people with their feet planted firmly on the ground!

These sorts of moves are definitely not recommended for complete beginners. James has been a Rock n Roll dance instructor for many years. Children, don't try this at home.

If you're ever in Adelaide during summer, you'll find 25 kilometres of golden beaches. Don't miss Henley square. There's lots happening there and if you're lucky, it just might be a rock n roll dance demonstration.
