Dancing is older than humanity itself. Many birds perform mating dances. Consider the gaily-coloured dance costumes of human females, who we commonly refer to as 'birds' or 'chicks'. They offer a tantalising suggestion that when we dance we are reaching deep into the very core of our souls, giving expression to an instinct that pre-dates the emergence of mammals within the phylum Chordata, which also includes birds.

We don't know if birds have some semblance of music in their minds when they dance, but we think of them as singing, so perhaps they are conscious of a sort of rhythm, even if it's only related to their heartbeat. Much of our our modern music bears an unmistakable resemblance to our own heartbeat and we think of music as springing from within our souls. This gives further credence to the idea that music and dancing are expressions of a very deep, subconscious and prehistoric instinct.


Birds dance
Dancing is one of the greatest refinements of human behaviour. Modern dance requires gentlemanly and ladylike interaction, but allows delightful and acceptable variations from both. It combines pro-activity with gentleness to set the mood for love-making.

Rock 'n' Roll dance, like it's offshoot Modern Jive, is easily learned. It's a highly versatile dance style with appeal to young and old alike. Originally based on the music of the nineteen-fifties, it is equally adaptable to the very latest chart-topping records. It can be fast and exciting, or can be performed at medium pace in a relaxed style. Almost any music with a reasonably fast four beats-to-the-bar is suitable.

You have little to lose and very much to gain by giving it a try. It could do for you what it has done for many millions around the world. That is, re-start your life in a whole new, exciting and highly fulfilling direction.
