Song - Little Things by Bobby Golsboro
This is a great song for dance practise.
When the dancers have worked up enough of a sweat that it's time to say "see you later, alligator" to Bill Halley and The Comets, you need 'filler' songs. Little Things is a great example.
These are tracks that have sufficient medium pace that you can still jive to them, but are toned-down enough that those couples who want to embrace and shuffle for a while can do so and still be aligned with the mood of the song.
I have found this a very good track for teaching beginners. The beat is strong, but not too fast and powerful. The melody is bright cheerful enough to get your feet mobile. The pace is ideal for any type of Rock n Roll dance step you wish to do.
Practising back-step footwork can be challenging for beginners. Not everyone has their brain correctly wired for it from the outset, but I do find that most people can handle it very well with time. Practise is what they need and this song is ideal. The pace of such standards as Rock Around The Clock pace can be a bit too fast for that purpose, especially for baby-boomers who no longer have the vitality of youth gushing out of them.
You can include this type of song anywhere in a playlist without it being out of place. For teachers, try it for your pupils to practise the little things that make dancing really great.
