MACK BROWN ARE ADELAIDE’S PREMIER BABY BOOMERS DANCE BAND
For full details, visit their website
This six piece outfit specializes in BIG BAND ROCK n ROLL, JIVE, SWING, LATIN and dance favourites. The band’s versatility is a feature that gives all dance fans the opportunity of blending their various skills on dance floors throughout Adelaide. It’s not unusual to see Rock n Rollers, Cha Cha and Swing fans all dancing to the same tune at a Mack Brown gig.
For strict Rock n Roll enthusiasts, the band works under the name MACK BROWN ROX and delivers a powerful package of 50's and 60's Classic Hits.
The band has a big band sound featuring the saxophone skills of TERRY BENN, who's incredible talent captures that marvellous pumping sixties sound so prevalent in Bobby Rydell, Dion, and Del Shannon tunes.
Guitar legend BILLY ORR and his Stratocaster woo audiences with his classic 50's/60's guitar sound of The Shadows and Duane Eddy. Billy was discovered as a 21 year old in Adelaide's Esquires by Johnny O'Keefe and relocated to Sydney where he worked with Lucky Starr, Digger Revell, Roland Storm and Noeleen Batley for many years. Before joining Mack Brown, he played with Bobby Hunter and The Rockafellas.
Former original member of 60’s recording group The Vibrants, GEOFF SKEWES on his powerful Hammond Organ and Digital Grand Piano, recreates the exciting sounds of Booker T & The MG's and Jerry Lee Lewis. Geoff also managed national recording artists Christie Allen, Queen of POP (1980-81) and Wendy & The Rocketts who toured Europe extensively in 1983 with ZZ Top.
Master craftsman ANDREW BRENNAN handles Mack Brown’s vocals and the former Big Band/Cabaret star is equally at home belting out a gutsy rock song or a smooth Bobby Darin tune. Andrew spent many years as compare/vocalist at Dirty Dick's Theatre Restaurant and was lead vocalist with the well known Lindy Hip Big Band.
Add to the mix the incredibly tight rhythm section of Musical Director/Bass player ARTHUR TUCKER and Drumming supremo ROBERT HUXTABLE it’s no wonder that Mack Brown are sought after whenever a Big Band Rock n Roll sound is required. Arthur's roots are in Rock n Roll and he played on TV with The Channel Niners during the early 60's. He played guitar with The Lindy Hip Big Band for many years and has played bass in many rock and jazz bands. Robert played in The Telstars back in "The Primitif Club" days and worked with John Bywaters (The Twilights) and Brian "Davo" Davage (The Party Cats) during those years.
Mack Brown's "7th" member is Sound Engineer TRAVIS HARMAN-SMITH who is a permanent member of the team and with his fully equipped sound system, produces the big HI FI sound that the band delivers. Travis is a fine guitarist in his own right and fully understands the importance of quality sound for dancers and patrons at all Mack Brown shows.
