Great Dance Song - Over, Under, Sideways, Down

This is a great rock 'n' roll dance track that people wouldn't automatically think of. But, they're missing out.

As an avid rock 'n' roll dancer I like Bill Haley and The comets as much as anyone. The old classic hits from the original rock 'n' roll era still bring listening enjoyment, with an added benefit of nostalgia these days. That's okay because anything that helps us to relive our youth gets a positive tick.

However, there's a limit songs of the era that are great to dance to so you can find yourself listening to the same songs over and over. Students in dance classes get bored listening to the same tracks each time they attend, so it's best to widen the scope when it comes to choosing what to play.

I have a list of songs that are excellent to dance to if you don't mind a few irregularities. I personally enjoy a few challenges thrown up by the music from time to time. These can be where the music speeds up for a period or slows down before resuming the regular beat. I happen to like this because it sorts out who knows what they're doing on a dance floor from those who need extra coaching.

The Yardbirds' hit song Over, Under, Sideways, Down from 1966 fits into that category. Aside from a couple of slow interludes the beat is classic boogie. In fact it's truly a rockin' song, which is not surprising because it was actually inspired by Bill Haley's Rock Around the clock. The addition of Jeff Beck's early fuzz guitar was one of the original transitions of traditional rock 'n' roll into psychedelic style.

Try adding this song to your play list and see how you like it, but put on your dancing shoes first because the beat is absolute magic.
